NFL - Week 3 - Start/Sit

-WEEKLY 'START EM' or 'SHIT EM' -
(Ron Jaworski "sees the field clearly" for you)

Week 3
- updated 9/21/11 -

49ers at Bengals

Start Em:

  • A.J. Green, WR, Bengals
AJ seems to be breaking out as Andy Dalton gets more comfortable.

  • Bengals Defense
The 49ers can't be trusted with Alex Smith on the road for the first time this year.

  • Obvious Starts:
SF: RB Frank Gore, TE Vernon Davis.
    CIN: None.

    Sit Em:

  • Braylon Edwards, WR, 49ers
Braylon Edwards has a tough matchup & Alex Smith may not have time to find him vs. Leon Hall.

    Patriots at Bills

    Start Em:

  • Deion Branch, WR, Patriots
Branch will see even more action with Aaron Hernandez out a few weeks.

  • Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Bills
Ryan Fitzpatrick can put up better numbers than Chad Henne, right?

  • Obvious Starts:
NE: QB Tom Brady, WR Wes Welker, TE Rob Gronkowski.
BUF: RB Fred Jackson, WR Steve Johnson.

    Sit Em:

  • Patriots Defense
The Bills will probably have to score at least 30 to keep pace.

    Texans at Saints

    Start Em:

  • Ben Tate, RB, Texans
Ben Tate could have another solid game with Arian Foster out again & the Saints allowing 4.4 YPC. Will Smith will be back in the lineup, but he may not be in game shape yet.

  • Mark Ingram, RB, Saints
Mark Ingram had tough matchups against the Bears and Packers. Maybe he finds the end zone this week.

  • Obvious Starts:
HOU: QB Matt Schaub, WR Andre Johnson, TE Owen Daniels.
NO: QB Drew Brees, RB Darren Sproles, TE Jimmy Graham.

    Sit Em:

  • Nobody of note.

  • Giants at Eagles

    Start Em:

  • Brandon Jacobs, RB, Giants
Both Jacobs & Bradshaw are viable vs. Philadelphia's sketchy run D who let Michael Turner & Steven Jackson torch them already.

  • Obvious Starts:
    NYG: RB Ahmad Bradshaw.
PHI: QB Vick (if starting), RB LeSean McCoy, WR DeSean Jackson, WR Jeremy Maclin (check health), Eagles Defense.

    Sit Em:

  • Eli Manning, QB, Giants
Eli Manning isn't playing very well & he faces a daunting matchup both in terms of pass rush & corners.

  • Mario Manningham, WR, Giants
Gotta check hios health issues as he suffered a mild concussion on Monday night.

    Dolphins at Browns Start Em:

  • Daniel Thomas, RB, Dolphins
Daniel Thomas had a nice game against the Texans. Cleveland gave up yards to Cedric Benson, Delone Carter, & Joseph Addai.

  • Mohammed Massaquoi, WR, Browns

  • Is catching Colt McCoy's eye in the end zone

  • Obvious Starts:
    MIA: WR Brandon Marshall.
    CLE: RB Peyton Hillis.

    Sit Em:

  • Reggie Bush, RB, Dolphins
Not if they keep auditioning Daniel Thomas as they did last week.

    Broncos at Titans
    Start Em:

  • Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Titans
Matt Hasselbeck could be a waiver play (this week) if your fantasy team has QB issues.

  • Chris Johnson, RB, Titans
Chris Johnson hasn't gotten it going yet, but things have a chance of turning around big time here vs. Denver.

  • Obvious Starts:
    DEN: None.
    TEN: WR Kenny Britt.

    Sit Em:

  • Knowshon Moreno, RB, Broncos
Unless you're SURE the hamstring injury is not a factor (which I doubt)

  • Eric Decker, WR, Broncos Might not expect the same production this week, but he's someone to have on a deep roster.

  • Brandon Lloyd, WR, Broncos
Brandon Lloyd oughtta sit until he's completely healthy. The Broncos don't seem to mind using Decker until Lloyd is fully healthy.

    Lions at Vikings

  • Start Em:

  • Nate Burleson, WR, Lions
Nate Burleson is a great WR3 option

  • Percy Harvin, WR, Vikings
Percy Harvin needs to be more involved for the Vikes

  • Obvious Starts:
DET: QB Matthew Stafford, RB Jahvid Best, WR Calvin Johnson, Lions Defense.
    MIN: RB Adrian Peterson.

    Sit Em:

  • Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Lions
Just isn't getting his share of the Matthew Stafford party.
Click here to find out more!Jaguars at Panthers Start Em:

  • Mike Thomas, WR, Jaguars
Carolina's secondary is getting torched... First at Arizona, then last week (for 30 points) in basically only 3 quarters of work for Aaron Rodgers... Only downside is to see whether Blaine Gabbert can get him the ball.

  • Cam Newton, QB, Panthers
Will Cam Newton could go for 400 again??? The Jags are 17th vs. the pass (against Sanchez & Hasslebeck).

  • Obvious Starts:
    JAX: RB Maurice Jones-Drew.
    CAR: WR Steve Smith.

    Sit Em:

  • Stewart & Williams
Jacksonville's run defense is 2nd toughest in yards allowed.

    Chiefs at Chargers

    Start Em:

  • Obvious Starts:
KC: WR Dwayne Bowe, RB/WR Dexter McCluster (is available in most leagues as dual position player)
SD: QB Philip Rivers, WR Vincent Jackson, TE Antonio Gates, Chargers Defense.

    Sit Em:

  • Mike Tolbert, RB, Chargers
Mike Tolbert is fumble prone & may cool his heels while sharing work with Ryan Matthews

    Jets at Raiders Start Em:

  • Shonn Greene, RB, Jets
Shonn Greene needs to step up here vs.Oakland rush defense, or owners need to start worrying.

  • Dustin Keller, TE, Jets
Dustin Keller is getting lots of red zone attention.

  • Obvious Starts:
NYJ: WR Santonio Holmes, Jets Defense.
    OAK: RB Darren McFadden.

    Sit Em:

  • Denarius Moore, WR, Raiders
Won't happen vs. a blitzing Jets D that has Revis & Cromartie at corners.

    Ravens at Rams

    Start Em:

  • Mike Sims-Walker, WR, Rams
Mike Sims-Walker is getting most of the Danny Amendola attention.

  • Obvious Starts:
BAL: RB Ray Rice, Ravens Defense.
    STL: None.

    Sit Em:

  • Sam Bradford, QB, Rams
There are better options at QB this week. Ram receivers aren't winning one on one matchups in the red zone.

  • Steven Jackson, RB, Rams
Steven Jackson would be picking the wrong week to want to suit up & test out an injury.

    Falcons at Buccaneers

    Start Em:

  • Matt Ryan, QB, Falcons
Tampa's secondary is finally getting some of its players back, but they might end up having to be busy here.

  • Julio Jones, WR, Falcons
Julio Jones won't be facing Nnamdi Asomugha this week.

  • Josh Freeman, QB, Buccaneers
Atlanta's secondary ranks 30th against the pass, we'll see very soon how bogus that is.

  • Obvious Starts:
ATL: RB Michael Turner, WR Roddy White, TE Tony Gonzalez.
TB: LeGarrette Blount, WR Mike Williams.

    Sit Em:

  • No one

    Cardinals at Seahawks

    Start Em:

  • Kevin Kolb, QB, Cardinals
Kolb should be able to put up Ben Rothleisberger like numbers against the Seattle secondary.

  • Obvious Starts:
    ARZ: WR Larry Fitzgerald.
SEA: None. (all Seahawks players blow goats)

    Sit Em:

  • Chris Wells, RB, Cardinals
The Seahawks have done a fairly decent job vs. Frank Gore & Rashard Mendenhall. So I might mot expect an 'extra credit' performance from Wells on the road in Seattle)...

  • All Seahawks (including the 12th man)
I wouldn't start any Seattle player in this game or any game where they're not playing the Washington State Cougars...

    Packers at Bears
    Start Em:

  • James Starks, RB, Packers
James Starks keeps outperforming Ryan Grant... The Bears are 29th vs. the run (which is surprising), but it may be an anomaly... I think you can start Starks if you're limited in your options.

  • Jordy Nelson, WR, Packers
Jordy Nelson continues to be a big target for Aaron Rodgers.

  • Obvious Starts:
GB: QB Aaron Rodgers, WR Greg Jennings, TE Jermichael Finley, Packers Defense.
    CHI: RB Matt Forte.

    Sit Em:

  • Jay Cutler, QB, Bears
Cutler looked a little frustrated last week vs. Saints... Last time they played the Packers (in Soldier Field), was the "quitter" game (NFC Championship)... Hmmm...

    Steelers at Colts Start Em:

  • Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark, WR/TE, Colts
This is about all the Colts have in terms of offense... Fantasy points don't regard yards & TD's as quality or garbage...

  • Obvious Starts:
PIT: QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Rashard Mendenhall, WR Mike Wallace, Steelers Defense.
    IND: None.

    Sit Em:

  • Colts RB's
Colts have no chance to run on the Steelers.

  • Redskins at Cowboys Start Em:

  • Fred Davis, TE, Redskins
Fred Davis is being called on often in Mike Shanahan's system (like a Tony Scheffler)

  • Dez Bryant, WR, Cowboys
If he can go (healthy) start him... Miles Austin will be out...

  • Obvious Starts:
    WAS: WR Santana Moss.
DAL: QB Tony Romo (if he plays), RB Felix Jones, TE Jason Witten, Cowboys Defense.

    Sit Em:

  • Tim Hightower, RB, Redskins
Tim Hightower, unexplainably, sat out the last quarter of the Arizona game (giving Roy Helu touches)... Dallas excels against the run, so I wouldn't expect much from Hightower here.

  • Miles Austin, WR, Cowboys

  • Will likely be out for a few weeks.
